J&K LG Lays Foundation for 530 Prefab Homes for Disaster-Hit Families

Funded by HRDS India, the prefabricated program targets six-month delivery with insurance, annual health checks, plus five years of maintenance.

Overview

  • New construction covers 189 houses in Ramban and 341 in Udhampur, with reported costs of ₹18 crore and ₹34 crore respectively.
  • The build is presented as the opening phase of a 1,500‑home rehabilitation plan that also includes families displaced by Operation Sindoor shelling.
  • Officials say the three-bedroom prefabricated homes will use techniques intended to improve comfort, strength and disaster resilience.
  • HRDS India has pledged 15 years of life insurance for family members, yearly health screenings, five-year upkeep and features such as cowsheds.
  • Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha directed district teams to add any genuinely affected families missing from lists and said he would personally monitor progress; separate PMGSY funds were highlighted for road links in both districts.
