J&K BOPEE Reverses Course, Sets Jan. 24 Counselling to Reallocate 50 Vaishno Devi MBBS Students

The reversal answers an NMC order triggered by an inspection that found major faculty and infrastructure gaps.

Overview

  • Physical counselling will be held on January 24 at JKBOPEE offices in Jammu and Srinagar to place the SMVDIME cohort in government medical colleges.
  • Fifty supernumerary seats have been created across seven colleges with a seat matrix of GMC Anantnag 8 and GMCs Baramulla, Doda, Handwara, Kathua, Rajouri and Udhampur 7 each.
  • Allotment will be based on NEET-UG merit and candidate preferences, with 22 seats in Kashmir and 28 in Jammu, according to the notified matrix.
  • The move comes hours after BOPEE told the Health and Medical Education Department it lacked mandate to hold fresh counselling under MCC timelines and had closed data on December 31, 2025.
  • The NMC withdrew SMVDIME’s permission on January 6 for serious deficiencies, a decision that followed months of protests over the inaugural batch’s religious composition.
