JFK Terminal 5 Rolls Out New York Culinary Icons as $100 Million Refresh Advances

The phased redevelopment aims to turn the terminal into a New York-flavored destination to increase passenger choice, boost non-aeronautical revenue, improve the traveler experience.

Overview

  • This week Terminal 5 unveiled nearly a dozen new dining and retail venues as part of a phased refresh led by JetBlue, the Port Authority and Fraport USA.
  • Eataly opened a 3,800-square-foot restaurant, wine bar and grab-and-go marketplace with a launch event that included performances by Metropolitan Opera artists.
  • Nom Wah brought a vintage-style dim sum parlor that references its 1920 Chinatown roots and The Halal Guys cut the ribbon on its first airport location at JFK.
  • The central concourse redesign is nearing completion and a park-inspired gathering space called Central Node Park is scheduled to open in September as the wider program targets year-end finish.
  • The multi-million-dollar program will add more than 40 shops, restaurants and communal spaces through partnerships with concession operators such as HMSHost and OTG to enhance passenger experience and non-aeronautical revenue.
