Jets Sign St. Thomas Captain Lucas Wahlin to One-Year, Two-Way Deal

The undrafted 24-year-old reports to the Manitoba Moose on an amateur tryout to help their playoff push.

Overview

  • Lucas Wahlin, whom Winnipeg signed Wednesday, agreed to a one-year NHL contract for 2026–27 with an $850,000 cap hit.
  • He will join the AHL Moose right away on an amateur tryout for the rest of this season, a short-term pact that lets college signees play in the AHL without starting their NHL deal.
  • The right-shot winger led the CCHA with 21 goals this season and posted 39 points in 36 games for St. Thomas.
  • He captained the Tommies, earned CCHA Defensive Forward of the Year and Student-Athlete of the Year, and finished his NCAA career with 131 points in 137 games.
  • The move fits Winnipeg’s pattern of adding undrafted college standouts as low-risk depth, and it gives Manitoba extra forward help during a tight playoff race.
