Overview
- JERA Nex bp completed the purchases from Sumitomo Corporation on July 3, 2026, taking 100% ownership of Northwester 2 and raising its stake in Nobelwind to 80.1%.
- Northwester 2 is a 219 MW farm 51 kilometres offshore made up of 23 Vestas 9.5 MW turbines and has been operational since 2020, while Nobelwind is a 165 MW farm 47 kilometres offshore with 50 Vestas V112-3.3 MW turbines commissioned in 2017.
- Both projects are developed, run and dispatched from JERA Nex bp’s operations hub in Ostend, Belgium, and Nobelwind received a vessel charging-station upgrade in 2024 to support service vessels and crew transfer craft.
- Northwester 2 sells its full output under a long-term PPA with RWE Supply & Trading signed in 2019, which channels power to industrial customers including ASML that has expanded offtake from the farm.
- Company leaders say the transaction fits JERA Nex bp’s disciplined long-term ownership strategy and should boost predictable cash flow and operational control for its Belgian portfolio while Sumitomo reallocates capital through further divestments.
