Jennifer Finch Memoir Scheduled for January 2027

Finch approved the finished manuscript before her July death, giving the band with the publisher a completed record of her life as L7 prepares a farewell tour.

Overview

  • Da Capo announced it will publish Shooting Up and Making Out: A Memoir of My Life in L.A. and L7 on January 19, 2027, and the book was completed with co-writer Jeff Alulis before Finch’s death.
  • Alulis said he and Finch worked together for two years and that Finch approved the final text, and he expressed that he is heartbroken she will not see it published.
  • The memoir traces Finch’s start in the Los Angeles punk scene, her heroin addiction and recovery, early bands including Courtney Love’s Sugar Babydoll, and her years in L7.
  • Finch died in July after a long cancer battle that began with a 2011 thyroid diagnosis and later involved an aggressive brain tumor, with a bandmate GoFundMe saying radiation complications led to multiple surgeries; outlets differ on whether she was reported as 59 or 60 at death.
  • L7 says it received Finch’s reported blessing to go forward and will proceed with a planned North American farewell tour in October, and the publisher frames the book as Finch’s final, intentional legacy.
