Jeep Recalls 328,381 Grand Cherokees Over Rear Coil Springs

Regulators say an incorrectly installed lower spring isolator can let a rear coil spring detach while driving, prompting an expanded fix and owner notifications.

Overview

  • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration posted the recall on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, and identified the action as recall number 89D.
  • The defect involves the rear coil spring lower isolator at the spring base; if it is installed incorrectly the spring can come out of position and detach from the vehicle.
  • The recall covers 328,381 vehicles across three lines with production ranges: 97,477 Grand Cherokee, 215,433 Grand Cherokee L, and 15,471 Grand Cherokee 4XE PHEV built through May 31, 2023.
  • Dealers will be notified starting Sept. 9 and owners will get letters between Sept. 29 and Oct. 7; dealers will replace the rear coil spring lower isolators free of charge.
  • The action replaces earlier recalls 26V051 and 23V413 after rising warranty claims and complaints, a history that regulators say shows the problem is recurring rather than isolated.
