Jeep Crashes Through Dunkin' Window on Chicago's Northwest Side

Authorities say two people were taken to hospital in good condition as police investigate why the vehicle entered the store.

Overview

  • A Jeep drove through the front window of the Dunkin' Donuts/Baskin-Robbins at 7171 W. Irving Park Rd., near Harlem Irving Plaza, during Thursday morning rush hours and came to rest inside the store.
  • An NBC 5 photographer and other witnesses said the driver exited the vehicle before first responders arrived at the scene.
  • The Chicago Fire Department reported two people were taken to the hospital in good condition and Block Club Chicago said those customers were treated and released from Resurrection Hospital.
  • Police have not released an official cause for the crash, but local reporting says the 32-year-old driver was cited for driving on a suspended license and the store closed temporarily with a likely reopening later Thursday.
  • The crash caused visible storefront damage, disrupted a busy commercial block across from an Illinois Department of Transportation yard, and left cleanup, repairs, and the outcome of the police investigation pending.
