Overview
- Spain’s Júcar river basin agency says the emergency rebuild is in its final phase with completion expected in June 2026 on the Picanya–Pista de Silla stretch of the Barranco del Poyo.
- The programme, launched after a severe 2024 storm that tore up the ravine, has a budget of about €20 million and spans roughly seven kilometres through Picanya, Paiporta, Massanassa and Catarroja.
- Crews are rebuilding and strengthening the worst‑hit slopes with rock walls and geocells, a honeycomb grid that anchors soil so it does not slide or wash away.
- The works aim to steer water through the channel in a steadier path that limits erosion and turbulence and reduces flood pressure on nearby urban areas.
- Next steps include connecting wastewater lines with the regional utility, removing and sorting work debris, and regrading the bed so water drains faster downstream toward Catarroja.
