Jared Curtis Breaks Out as Vanderbilt Wins 35-26 and QB Race Intensifies

Vanderbilt beat Delaware 35-26 after freshman Jared Curtis came off the bench and finished 14-for-22 for 210 yards with one passing touchdown and two rushing scores in the second half on Saturday.
Starter Blaze Berlowitz struggled early, completing 3 of 9 for 29 yards and losing a second-quarter fumble, and his three-and-out near halftime drew audible boos from the crowd.
Clark Lea said Curtis’ entry was prearranged for the third series and that the staff will keep evaluating both quarterbacks rather than immediately naming a permanent starter.
Special teams and defense swung momentum as Vanderbilt blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown and the defense recorded six sacks, 11 tackles for loss, and two interceptions.
Curtis is a five-star Nashville native who flipped his commitment from Georgia, and his performance adds pressure ahead of upcoming practice evaluations and the Sept. 19 game against N.C. State.
