Overview
- The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will be in New Delhi from July 1–3 to attend the 16th India‑Japan Annual Summit at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation.
- Takaichi will make her first official trip to India with a large Japanese business delegation and both leaders are set to attend a major economic forum with industry executives.
- A central agenda item is economic security, with both sides expected to move from planning to implementation of the Joint Declaration on Economic Security and discuss semiconductors, critical minerals, batteries and resilient supply chains.
- The summit builds on the August 2025 Tokyo roadmap and is intended to operationalise Japan’s pledged ¥10 trillion in private investment in India by accelerating concrete projects and corporate commitments.
- All programmes will be held in New Delhi after Guwahati was dropped for logistical reasons and parliamentary scheduling, and leaders are also expected to review defence ties and deepen Indo‑Pacific coordination as Quad partners.
