- Officials announced on Tuesday that the restoration completion ceremony for Shuri Castle’s main hall will be held on November 22 at Shurijo Park in Naha.
- Work to rebuild the main hall began in November 2022 and government sources say construction is on track to finish in autumn 2026 with full restoration completed within the year.
- The project has been run through a government inter‑ministerial council working with Okinawa prefectural authorities and teams from the Okinawa General Bureau and prefectural civil engineering department.
- Funding has combined public resources with donations collected in the Shuri Castle Future Fund, which has gathered more than ¥60 billion from individuals and companies inside and outside Okinawa.
- Shuri Castle served as the political and cultural center of the Ryukyu Kingdom for about 450 years, and officials say the restored main hall will reaffirm Okinawan identity and help draw visitors back to the island.
