Japan Gasoline Prices Rise for Second Week to ¥157.1 per Liter

The latest government survey underscores the sensitivity of Japan’s import‑dependent fuel market to global risks as well as currency moves.

Overview

  • The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry reported on Feb. 26 that the national average for regular gasoline was ¥157.10 per liter as of Feb. 24, up ¥0.40 from the prior week.
  • Prices increased in 34 prefectures, were unchanged in 2, and fell in 11; Miyagi posted the lowest average at ¥150.70, while Yamagata was highest at ¥166.10.
  • The Oil Information Center attributed the latest rise primarily to heightened tensions involving Iran alongside a weaker yen lifting crude import costs.
  • Diesel averaged ¥145.20 per liter, up ¥0.30 week over week, and kerosene reached ¥2,200 per 18 liters, a ¥4 increase.
  • All figures come from a weekly survey conducted by the Oil Information Center under contract to the ministry.
