James Gunn Reveals Practical Lex Luthor Warsuit on Man of Tomorrow Set

The director’s official image confirms a live-action, mobile Warsuit and shows visual cues that point to plot links with Brainiac and A.R.G.U.S.

Overview

  • Gunn posted the first official photo on June 1 and said the Warsuit is “100% practical,” that Nicholas Hoult can move well in it, and that the film version includes unbreakable “Lexiglas.”
  • The suit is a comics-accurate green-and-purple build with a clear protective dome over the head and an A.R.G.U.S. chest insignia, details outlets say could indicate agency involvement rather than LuthorCorp technology.
  • Unreleased fan-shot set videos later showed action using the Warsuit, including a stunt where the armored figure is thrown through a wall and footage that appears to show Superman near the crash site.
  • Filming is active in Atlanta with key cast members returning, the production using practical effects by Judianna Makovsky and Legacy Effects, and the film still scheduled for a July 9, 2027 theatrical release.
  • The Warsuit’s live-action debut ties back to its comic history as Lex’s anti-Kryptonian armor and signals that Gunn’s sequel will emphasize Lex’s role and large-scale threats as DC Studios builds its next DCU chapter.
