Overview
- Elmore, 61, was arrested Tuesday after a Galveston County grand jury charged him with manslaughter in Laura Miller’s 1984 death and with felony evidence tampering in the Miller and Audrey Cook cases.
- The manslaughter indictment says Elmore prepared a vial of cocaine for longtime suspect Clyde Hedrick to give Miller, and prosecutors allege he helped dispose of Miller’s and Cook’s bodies.
- Hedrick, 72, died by suicide in March before prosecutors planned to seek his indictment, yet investigators still presented evidence on his alleged role in the four Calder Road killings.
- District Attorney Kenneth Cusick said Wednesday that prosecutors will ask a judge to keep Elmore in jail pending trial and that there are other active leads under investigation.
- The Texas Killing Fields is a remote area near Interstate 45 in League City where more than 30 women were found since the 1970s, including four recovered from the same field between 1984 and 1991.
