Overview
- The state, which announced the extension Tuesday, moved the free swap to May 29, 2026 to finish updating plates across Jalisco.
- The benefit applies only to people who paid the 2025 registration under the 3x1 plan, and more than 364,000 eligible drivers still have not picked up their plates.
- The traffic police will not run enforcement operations during the extension, and fines for outdated plates will start in June, said Commissioner Jorge Alberto Arizpe García.
- Missing the new deadline will make the swap cost about 4,000 pesos, and driving without valid plates brings fines of 20 to 60 UMA, or roughly 2,346 to 7,039 pesos.
- No appointment is needed for pickup, offices run Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with closures on Holy Thursday and Friday, and applicants must bring the 2025 receipt, old plates, ID, proof of address, and a verification record or commitment letter.
