- External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is on a nine-day visit from May 2 to 10 to Jamaica, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago to expand political, economic and people-to-people ties.
- In Kingston, he met Prime Minister Andrew Holness and handed over 10 BHISHM Cubes, which are mobile hospital systems designed for fast deployment during disasters and emergencies.
- He visited Old Harbour Bay, the landing site of the first Indians to Jamaica, and engaged the Indian-origin community, which he noted is about 70,000 people and a living bridge between the countries.
- Jaishankar described India–Jamaica ties as a story of continuity and change and pointed to trade above $100 million alongside strengths in pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, apparel and digital technologies.
- He highlighted India’s recent hurricane relief to Jamaica and collaboration through the International Solar Alliance and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, signaling deeper regional work as he heads to Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
