Jaguar’s 1,000+PS Electric GT Enters Arctic Winter Testing

The company says its EV-only plan stands despite a report that it is considering a petrol range-extender.

Overview

  • Engineers are running prototypes on frozen lakes near Arjeplog at temperatures down to −40°C to tune propulsion software, drive modes and the ThermAssist thermal system.
  • The four-door GT uses a tri-motor all-wheel-drive setup with intelligent torque vectoring, plus all-wheel steering, dynamic air suspension and twin-valve dampers.
  • Jaguar says about 150 cars are in what it calls its most rigorous validation program, covering hundreds of thousands of miles in hot deserts, Arctic conditions and virtual rigs.
  • Company spokespeople have rejected the range-extender rumor reported by The Times, restating plans to relaunch Jaguar as an electric-only luxury brand.
  • Media reports indicate a global unveiling later in 2026, with new reporting describing a 5.2-metre sedan, an estimated 120kWh battery targeting around 692km WLTP range and up to 1300Nm of torque.
