Jaguar Puts 1,000-Bhp Electric GT Through Arctic Trials, Reaffirms EV-Only Relaunch

The winter program validates a new thermal system that targets up to a 40% cut in heating energy use in severe cold.

Overview

  • Prototypes of the four-door GT are undergoing cold-weather calibration in Arjeplog, Sweden, with testing down to around −40°C as part of Jaguar’s most extensive validation program.
  • The tri-motor powertrain is claimed to deliver more than 1,000 bhp with intelligent torque vectoring, supported by all-wheel steering, dynamic air suspension and active twin-valve dampers.
  • Jaguar is trialling its ThermAssist thermal management, which is engineered to operate effectively to about −10°C and to help preserve range by recovering and reallocating heat.
  • Following UK reports of a petrol-based range extender, Jaguar stated its plans to relaunch as an electric-only luxury brand remain unchanged.
  • The car is slated for a production reveal this summer, with pricing reported around £120,000–£140,000 and first UK deliveries targeted for early 2027, with range estimates around 400 miles on the EPA cycle.
