Jacksonville Man Accused of Stealing $4,000 in Publix Meat, Then Dumping It After Finding Girlfriend With Another Man

Detectives used surveillance to link Heannys O. Alvarez Reyna to two Palm Coast thefts, with custody set at a $5,000 bond under an ICE detainer.

Overview

  • Investigators say the thefts occurred on January 5 at the Belle Terre Crossings and Island Walk Publix stores in Palm Coast less than 20 minutes apart.
  • The suspect is identified as Heannys O. Alvarez Reyna, 30, a Cuban national living in Jacksonville, seen driving the same vehicle to both locations.
  • Deputies report $1,574.86 in beef and lamb was taken from the first store, followed by $2,084 in pork, sirloin, brisket, tenderloin, and personal-care items from the second.
  • Reyna allegedly told detectives he discarded most of the meat after arriving at his girlfriend’s home and finding her cooking with another man.
  • He was arrested on a felony retail theft charge and booked into the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility on $5,000 bond with a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer, with Sheriff Rick Staly describing the case as a calculated operation.
