JAC Opens Orders for Hunter Plug-In Hybrid Ute Priced Under $50,000
The low entry price positions JAC to reset expectations in Australia’s plug-in ute market.
Overview
- JAC, which opened reservations Tuesday at 5pm AEST, set a starting price under $50,000 before on-road costs that undercuts BYD, GWM and Ford plug-in rivals.
- First deliveries are scheduled for the third quarter of 2026, and the first 1,000 customers get a home charger or a $500 accessories voucher.
- The PHEV pairs a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine with dual motors for a claimed 360 kW, with final torque figures yet to be confirmed.
- A 31.2 kWh LFP battery is claimed to provide more than 100 km of electric-only range and a 1005 km combined range with 1.6 L/100 km fuel use on the lenient NEDC lab cycle.
- JAC lists 3500 kg braked towing, a 915 kg payload and front and rear diff locks, after more than 50,000 km of local testing that included Lang Lang, now reportedly sold to a defence contractor.
