ITC Judge Issues Split Ruling in Shoals–Voltage Patent Dispute

The full commission now reviews the split finding, with a June decision that could lead to an exclusion order.

Overview

  • An administrative law judge on Feb. 6 found Voltage’s original LYNX trunk‑bus products infringe Shoals’ U.S. patents 12,015,375 and 12,015,376, constituting a Section 337 violation.
  • The same initial determination found Voltage’s redesigned LYNX PLUS trunk‑bus solution does not infringe the asserted Shoals patents.
  • The ITC’s final determination is expected by June 2026, and Voltage may continue importing its trunk‑bus products until then.
  • Voltage said it will seek Commission review of the adverse portion of the ruling, and a Feb. 26–27 bench trial in the Middle District of North Carolina will examine the enforceability of Shoals’ patents and Voltage’s unclean‑hands defense.
  • Shoals welcomed the initial ruling as support for U.S. intellectual property protection, following a 2025 ITC case that was terminated, while Voltage is expanding manufacturing in North Carolina.
