Overview
- Ministry data on Tuesday put self-service averages at €1.736 per liter for gasoline and €2.021 for diesel across Italy.
- Diesel has climbed back above €2 in many regions, with motorway pumps even higher, while Marche remains the cheapest and Bolzano, Valle d’Aosta and Sicily rank among the most expensive.
- Consumer groups Codacons and Unione Nazionale Consumatori say the relief has been absorbed by the supply chain and cite day-to-day jumps in the cost of a 50-liter fill, which rose by about €2 in some provinces.
- The cut of 24.4 cents per liter lowered the tax share, yet the industrial component rose as Brent crude moved from the mid-$90s toward $100–113 a barrel and pump prices adjust with a lag.
- The measure is temporary and due to lapse in early April, leaving the government to decide whether to extend support as brand strategies diverge, with Eni pricing under rivals and Q8 raising recommended lists.
