Italy Braces for Another Atlantic System With Rain Nationwide and Alpine Snow

Official guidance highlights widespread rain, high-elevation snow, very rough seas.

Overview

  • Military meteorologists forecast rain across much of the country today, with snow on the western Alps above roughly 800–900 meters and on the central Apennines above about 1300 meters.
  • Showers are expected to intensify over the Ligurian east coast this evening, turning into downpours and thunderstorms.
  • Widespread fog is forecast in the Po Valley, while temperatures remain generally stable and edge higher in the Centre-South.
  • Marine conditions will be hazardous, with moderate winds locally strengthening and very rough seas in the Sea and Strait of Sardinia, the Ligurian Sea and the southern Ionian.
  • Forecasters expect another Atlantic disturbance through Thursday with gale-force winds and heavy seas especially around Sardinia and Sicily, while some models point to a possible colder shift around Feb. 14 that could lower snow levels.
