Overview
- ISRO says the first uncrewed Gaganyaan mission, G1, is about 90% complete after more than 8,000 ground tests and structural qualifications.
- An Integrated Mission Review Committee has been set up to address design and simulation gaps before flight clearance.
- The G1 flight is tentatively targeted for March 2026 and will carry the Vyommitra humanoid to roughly 400 km to validate life-support, re-entry, and recovery systems.
- ISRO plans multiple uncrewed missions in 2026 ahead of a crewed mission in 2027 using the human-rated LVM3 and coordinated sea recovery with the Indian Navy.
- Chairman V. Narayanan emphasized stringent safety qualification and noted the recent PSLV anomaly is being investigated separately without altering the Gaganyaan timeline.
