Israeli Strikes in Lebanon Kill at Least 12 as IDF Targets Hezbollah and Hamas Sites

The strikes raise fresh doubts about the 2024 U.S.-brokered ceasefire intended to contain Israel–Hezbollah hostilities.

Overview

  • Israel’s military said it hit Hezbollah command centers in the Baalbek/Bekaa area and a Hamas site in the Ain al-Hilweh refugee camp near Sidon.
  • Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported at least 10 dead and 24 wounded in the Bekaa strikes, with two more killed in the Ain al-Hilweh attack.
  • Hezbollah officials told the Associated Press that eight of its members, including three local commanders — Ali al-Moussawi, Mohammed al-Moussawi and Hussein Yaghi — were killed in the eastern strikes.
  • Hamas acknowledged two members were killed in the camp strike but rejected Israel’s claim that a command center was hit, as Lebanon’s NNA reported an Israeli drone struck the camp’s Hittin neighborhood.
  • Israeli statements said the targets were embedded in populated areas and violated ceasefire understandings, while Lebanese authorities and footage from the scene pointed to civilian casualties, including children.
