Israeli Strikes Hit Gaza Funeral and Kill Dozens as Air Raids Surge

The funeral strike undercuts the U.S.-brokered ceasefire, raising pressure for investigations and for faster delivery of emergency aid.

Overview

  • A strike on a funeral in the Nuseirat refugee camp on Friday killed at least seven people and wounded about 22, the local Awda Hospital reported.
  • Health officials and medics said separate Israeli strikes on Thursday and Friday killed at least five more people across Gaza in Tuffah, Zeitoun, western Gaza City, Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah.
  • The Israeli military says its operations target militants and identified Omar Abu Qasim as a senior Al-Qassam sniper commander killed in a Deir al-Balah strike, while Palestinian medical sources reported civilian deaths in that strike.
  • Conflict monitor ACLED recorded more than 40 air and drone strikes in June, the highest monthly total since the October ceasefire, and Gaza health authorities say more than 1,100 Palestinians have been killed by strikes since that truce took effect.
  • Nearly all of Gaza’s population remains displaced into a narrow coastal strip, humanitarian supplies are constrained, and the renewed high-casualty incidents deepen international calls for accountability and threaten further erosion of the ceasefire under rising domestic political pressure in Israel.
