Israeli Strike Near Lebanon–Syria Border Kills Four in Claimed Hit on PIJ Operatives

The strike marks Israel's first public claim against PIJ in Lebanon since the 2024 truce.

Overview

  • Lebanon’s state news agency and Health Ministry said an Israeli drone hit a car in Majdal Anjar near the Masnaa crossing, killing four people, with Lebanese media naming Syrian national Khaled Mohammad al-Ahmad among the dead.
  • The Israeli military said on X that it targeted Palestinian Islamic Jihad operatives in Lebanon, providing no public evidence in that post.
  • AFP reported that this appears to be the first strike in Lebanon that Israel has publicly linked to Islamic Jihad since the November 2024 cessation of hostilities.
  • Separately, the Israeli army said it killed a militant in southern Lebanon’s Hanin area whom it accused of trying to re-establish Hezbollah infrastructure.
  • Despite the truce, Israeli strikes in Lebanon have persisted, with an AFP tally based on Lebanese health data recording more than 370 people killed since the ceasefire.
