An Israeli strike, one of multiple on the southern Lebanese city of Nabatiyeh on Friday, killed 13 State Security personnel

Overview

  • An Israeli strike on the southern city of Nabatiyeh killed 13 members of Lebanon’s State Security and heavily damaged their local office, according to the agency and local media.
  • Cross-border fire continued as Israel reported 30 rockets launched from Lebanon and Hezbollah claimed multiple attacks, including a strike on an Israeli naval base in Ashdod far from the border.
  • A U.S. official said Lebanon–Israel talks are planned in Washington next week, and Lebanese leaders cast a ceasefire as the aim of any negotiation.
  • Hezbollah’s Naim Qassem urged the government to offer no “free concessions” before talks, and supporters protested in Beirut against direct negotiations with Israel.
  • The World Health Organization urged Israel to cancel an evacuation warning for Beirut’s Jnah district because nearby hospitals still care for hundreds of patients, while a month of strikes has killed about 1,900 people in Lebanon and spurred European and Gulf pressure to avoid new raids on the capital.
