Israeli Raid in Eastern Lebanon Fails to Find Ron Arad’s Remains as Lebanon Reports 41 Killed

Israeli leaders now face questions over the intelligence that pointed troops to a Nabi Chit grave.

Overview

  • The overnight operation on March 6–7 targeted a cemetery in Nabi Chit in the Bekaa Valley in an effort to locate the remains of airman Ron Arad, missing since 1986.
  • Israeli helicopters inserted forces near the village, troops dug at the site, firefights erupted with Hezbollah fighters and locals, and the units withdrew under air cover.
  • The Israel Defense Forces said no remains were recovered, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged the mission did not achieve its goal.
  • Lebanon’s government reported 41 people killed, including children, and extensive damage from airstrikes preceding and covering the raid.
  • Lebanese officials and reporters described Israeli troops using lookalike uniforms and vehicles, said the grave opened belonged to Subhi Shukr, and noted media suggestions of a possible link to the December 2025 disappearance of ex-officer Ahmad Chokr.
