Israel Sends Joint Aid Delegation to Venezuela for Quake Response

The National Security Council approved the mission to align military, diplomatic, emergency teams for on-the-ground rescue, engineering support, coordination with Venezuelan authorities.

Overview

  • A small Israeli search-and-rescue team of about 16 personnel from NGOs and private firms is already operating in Venezuela to locate survivors and provide immediate aid.
  • Following an NSC review, Israel approved a larger joint delegation from the Foreign Ministry and the IDF Home Front Command that will deploy to support recovery and engineering work.
  • Ambassador Yoed Magen will lead the Foreign Ministry component and Brig.-Gen. Elad Edri will head the Home Front Command team, with additional engineers and emergency experts to join as needed.
  • Venezuelan officials say the late-June earthquakes killed more than 1,700 people and damaged hundreds of buildings, creating urgent demand for structural assessments, rescues and humanitarian relief.
  • The mission is notable for proceeding despite no formal Israel–Venezuela diplomatic ties since 2009, and Israeli teams plan to coordinate directly with Venezuelan authorities on operational priorities and needs.
