Israel Says It Hit Three Tehran Airports and Crippled Iranian Air Defenses

The claimed gains signal a coordinated bid to cut Iran’s ability to fight from the air.

Overview

  • Israel’s military said it carried out a large airstrike on three airports in Tehran, hitting aircraft, helicopters and other military sites at Bahram, Mehrabad and Azmayesh.
  • The IDF released missile-view footage and asserted that more than 130 Iranian air-defense systems were destroyed in precision strikes guided by its intelligence branch.
  • Israel described the effort as part of Operation Roaring Lion, and U.S. Central Command shared video of combined strikes that targeted Iranian missile and radar sites in a related campaign it calls Operation Epic Fury.
  • Israeli officials said the strikes in Tehran killed Majid Khademi, who they identified as the head of the IRGC’s intelligence arm, along with a senior commander from the Quds Force’s Unit 840.
  • The IDF also reported operations in southern Lebanon where troops found underground quarters and weapons stockpiles, as the WHO chief condemned a deadly strike near Lebanon’s largest public hospital that killed four people and injured dozens.
