Islanders Name Trenton Ironhawks as ECHL Affiliate

It creates a geographically closer rung for Islanders prospects.

Overview

  • The New York Islanders announced Wednesday that the Trenton Ironhawks will be their ECHL affiliate for the 2026–27 season after the franchise relocated from West Valley City, Utah.
  • The Ironhawks will play home games at CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton and are scheduled to host their first home game on Oct. 24, 2026.
  • The team will also serve as an affiliate to the IslandersAHL club that is relocating to Hamilton, Ontario, forming a contiguous development ladder for call-ups.
  • The Colorado Avalanche, which had been partnered with the Utah franchise, signed a multi-year deal with expansion New Mexico Goatheads after the team moved to New Jersey.
  • Trenton has not hosted pro hockey since 2013 and local officials and Ironhawks leadership say the team is intended to spur jobs, arena activity, and community engagement while giving Islanders prospects a nearby place to develop.
