Overview
- An Amárach Research survey for European Movement Ireland polled 1,200 adults north and south in late March with a margin of error of ±2.2%, providing a fresh snapshot of views on the EU and Irish unity.
- Support for EU membership remains high at 82% in the Republic of Ireland and 76% in Northern Ireland, underscoring sustained backing for the bloc across the island.
- Asked about a united Ireland within the EU, 59% in the Republic and 63% in Northern Ireland said they would vote in favour if a referendum were held tomorrow.
- In Northern Ireland, 73% said they would back the UK rejoining the EU and 73% want the region to have a greater say at EU level because many EU single market rules still apply there.
- Fewer people now think the EU is on the right track, down from 58% in 2023 to 45% this year, with cost of living, migration, housing, energy, and defence and security ranking as top concerns that could shape Ireland’s coming EU Council presidency.
