Irish Lessors Ask DGCA to Deregister Four SpiceJet 737‑8 MAX Jets

The filings aim to let owners repossess the grounded aircraft to stop lease payments while India’s regulator decides on removal from the national register.

Overview

  • Dublin‑based lessors Sky High LXXVII and Sky High LXXX have filed IDERA deregistration requests for four Boeing 737‑8 MAXs registered VT‑MXA, VT‑MXB, VT‑MXC and VT‑MAX.
  • SpiceJet says the jets have been out of service for an extended period because of high‑pressure turbine engine faults and that deregistration would eliminate rental costs with no effect on current flights.
  • If the DGCA approves the IDERA requests the aircraft would be removed from India’s civil register and the lessors, reported to be owned by ICBC, would move to repossess and export them.
  • Public fleet data show SpiceJet is operating a sharply reduced active fleet with many aircraft parked and that the four MAXs were placed in storage in 2024–2025.
  • The action increases pressure on SpiceJet’s recovery plan as management seeks to rebuild capacity to about 55–60 aircraft for winter through leases and returns to service and regulators, lessors and OEM fixes will determine the pace of that rebound.
