IRCTC Rolls Out Beta of Redesigned Ticketing Site

The new beta aims to speed bookings and cut interruptions while officials finish a phased backend upgrade and collect user feedback.

Overview

  • The Railway Ministry published a beta version of the IRCTC ticketing portal on July 15 at 9 p.m., reachable at https://www.irctc.co.in/eticket/ and linked from the existing homepage.
  • The front end removes repeated CAPTCHAs and pop-ups, shortens checkout, saves passenger details and adds seat selection, a fare calendar, unified seat‑availability across classes and multilingual support.
  • Railway officials say the upgraded platform has been built to process about 1.5 lakh bookings per minute and that the Passenger Reservation System is being scaled to handle roughly 40 lakh enquiries per minute, figures the ministry provided while the full integration is still pending.
  • IRCTC is keeping the legacy site live, asking the public to test the beta and submit feedback, and plans a phased rollout of remaining features as the Passenger Reservation Engine upgrade is completed in the coming weeks.
  • The redesign grew from complaints by students at MNIT Jaipur and targets long‑standing problems on the 2002 portal, which handles about 1.45 million bookings a day and often slowed or failed during Tatkal windows.
