Iraola Faces Pre-Season Delay as Diomande Transfer Stalls

Limited squad availability will force early reliance on recent signings and academy players.

Overview

  • Liverpool’s planned pre-season (expected to start around July 13) will likely begin without up to eight first-team players because those players are at the 2026 World Cup and the club grants three weeks’ rest after tournament exits.
  • The club’s US tour, which opens with a friendly on July 25, is at risk of missing World Cup participants who progress into the July knockout rounds.
  • Liverpool have made an offer reported at roughly €100m for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande but Leipzig are seeking about €130m, with Paris Saint-Germain also linked to the 19-year-old.
  • Former player Jamie Carragher and other pundits have publicly warned that Diomande is largely a high-potential prospect rather than a finished star, urging caution over paying very large fees for youth.
  • Meanwhile Liverpool have already secured Victor Muñoz and Jeremy Jacquet, are set to add Ifeanyi Ndukwe, and are monitoring alternatives such as Saïd El Mala, leaving the club able to pivot if the Diomande fee proves prohibitive.
