Overview
- Hours after Wednesday's U.S. strikes inside Iran, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it fired missiles and launched drones at U.S. bases in Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain and the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
- Iran says its action was revenge for U.S. raids that Iranian state media say killed dozens, including civilians at a wedding in southern Iran, while U.S. Central Command rejects claims it targets civilians.
- Tehran also reported seizing a tanker carrying 382,000 liters of fuel and damaging facilities in Erbil and a U.S. Marine training site in Jordan, claims that U.S. authorities have not independently verified.
- President Donald Trump said the United States is prepared to strike again and asserted U.S. control over the Strait of Hormuz, a move the U.N. secretary-general said raised grave concerns about civilian harm.
- The clash is the latest stage of a war that began with a late-February strike on Iranian nuclear sites and has already placed heavy pressure on the Strait of Hormuz and global energy and shipping routes.
