The clash now plays out in BRICS sessions with dueling claims routed through the UN.

Overview

  • The UAE minister, speaking Friday in New Delhi, rejected Iran’s claims and said the country will defend its sovereignty under the UN Charter.
  • Iran’s deputy foreign minister accused the UAE of aiding attacks on Iran, labeled it an aggressor, and said Tehran sent more than 120 notes to the UN Security Council documenting UAE-linked flights.
  • Tehran argued it targeted US bases and any UAE sites with US involvement as self-defense under the UN Charter during the wider conflict.
  • The UAE said its air defenses intercepted nearly 3,000 projectiles since February 28, including 551 ballistic missiles, 29 cruise missiles, and 2,265 drones that it says targeted civilian infrastructure.
  • Citing UN Security Council Resolution 2817 and a unanimous Human Rights Council vote, the UAE pointed to global warnings over threats to shipping and aviation and accused Iran of disrupting the Strait of Hormuz.
