Overview
- On July 18 the Attapur police registered FIR No. 824/2026 after a 30‑year‑old woman IPS probationer lodged a complaint alleging weeks of sexual harassment, assault, criminal intimidation and digital abuse at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy.
- The FIR, filed under multiple Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections and provisions of the IT Act, alleges abusive WhatsApp messages, forced access to her phone and password, secret recording and transmission of a private video, wrongful confinement and physical assaults including a knife threat.
- The academy’s internal inquiry reportedly reviewed CCTV and related material, found the complaint had merit and placed the accused, trainee IPS officer Uday Krishna Reddy, under suspension pending the police probe.
- On July 20 Reddy was found unconscious at a relative’s or friend’s residence and hospitalised; doctors and preliminary police checks found no trace of poison and noted heavy alcohol consumption while a purported handwritten note and his social posts deny the allegations and claim a consensual relationship.
- Investigators have seized phones and other devices, summoned witnesses and begun forensic examination of WhatsApp chats and CCTV; the digital and medical evidence will be central to whether the case proceeds to prosecution and to questions about safety and oversight at the premier training institution.
