iOS 27 Brings Dual Camera to FaceTime on New iPhones

The developer beta lets iPhone 17 models plus iPhone Air broadcast front and rear live video in calls to make sharing surroundings easier.

Overview

  • Apple added Dual Camera support to FaceTime in the iOS 27 developer beta so users can show both front and rear camera views at once during a call.
  • The feature is hardware limited to the iPhone 17 family and the iPhone Air, while older iPhones can only view a dual stream but cannot broadcast one.
  • Reviewers testing the beta confirmed Dual Camera is toggled in-call by tapping the Flip button, which by default keeps the front-facing view active when the rear camera turns on.
  • Both callers must be running iOS 27 for the full dual-camera experience, though devices on older iOS builds can still receive a dual stream from a compatible iPhone.
  • Dual Camera in FaceTime extends the iPhone 17 family’s Dual Capture video tool from the Camera app and could change how people show scenes, demos, or live events during video chats.
