Overview
- The IOC Executive Committee announced on Tuesday that it has provisionally revoked the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee, ending the 12 October 2023 measure for now.
- The decision follows a Legal Affairs Commission finding that the ROC no longer includes local sports bodies in territories under the Ukrainian Olympic Committee and a ROC assurance it will not operate there.
- Reinstatement is conditional on strict anti-doping verification through Rusada, the national agency that must demonstrate compliance with international rules given its contested past.
- International federations and event organisers will decide whether Russian flags, anthems or national colours may be used, while the IOC will not stage events in Russia or invite Russian state officials.
- The IOC will closely monitor ROC activity and reserve the right to reimpose measures if needed; the move lets Russian athletes and teams enter qualification for Los Angeles 2028 and the Dolomiti Valtellina 2028 Youth Olympics.
