Overview
- The IOC approved the FIH system for Los Angeles 2028, keeping 12 teams per gender with the United States qualifying as host and the remaining 11 slots filled via the Pro League, continental championships and Olympic Qualification Tournaments.
- Under the Pro League rule, the highest-placed nation in the 2025–26 and 2026–27 seasons earns an Olympic berth, with the 2026–27 runner-up qualifying if the same team tops both seasons.
- Four Olympic Qualification Tournaments in early 2028—two per gender—will each feature eight teams, with the top two in each event completing the LA28 line-up.
- FIH named host sites for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with women’s events in Santiago (28 Feb–8 Mar) and Hyderabad (8–14 Mar) and a men’s event in Ismailia (1–7 Mar), using two pools of four, semifinals and third-place games to allocate seven berths per gender across the two tournaments.
- India’s women, who missed automatic entry after China won the Asia Cup, will compete at the Hyderabad qualifier against England, Scotland, Korea, Italy, Uruguay, Wales and Austria.
