Investigators Pinpoint Vessel of Interest in Deadly Biscayne Bay Hit-and-Run

Investigators now say the vessel of interest appears to be a 40- to 43-foot Formula with quad Mercury engines.

  • The collision, which occurred Wednesday in the Meloy Channel off Miami Beach, killed 55-year-old Davide Veglia and injured his 14-year-old son.
  • New FWC video describes the vessel of interest as a 40- to 43-foot Formula boat with four Mercury L6 Verado engines and black bottom paint.
  • The boat was last seen heading north through the channel between about 7:45 and 8:15 p.m.
  • FWC released photos and asked anyone with video or tips to call the Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-3922 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers.
  • The teen remains hospitalized with a broken arm, and nearby teens said they heard his calls for help before rescuers arrived.
