Overview
- Delegations from election bodies in Angola, Bhutan, Egypt, Portugal, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Benin and Croatia will take part in the International Election Visitors’ Programme in Assam.
- The delegations, which arrive April 8, will receive briefings from the Chief Electoral Officer and tour dispatch centres and control rooms to see how polling materials and staff are deployed.
- Observation on April 9 will send teams to selected districts to watch voting steps inside polling stations, on-site security, and the use of election technology.
- Organisers say the programme gives hands-on exposure to how India runs large, statewide elections and encourages cooperation among election administrators.
- Assam votes for all 126 Assembly seats on April 9, with counting on May 4, giving visitors a view of both polling-day operations and the lead-up to results.
