Overview
- Law enforcement says 4-year-old Javeayah Harris was reported missing from her family home near Hillsboro Street and Ridgecrest Road on Tuesday evening and investigators are treating the disappearance as active.
- The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is coordinating with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the FBI and has deployed helicopters, drones and search-and-rescue teams that have covered more than 3,000 acres so far.
- Authorities describe Javeayah as about 3 feet, 6 inches tall and 42 pounds and say she was last seen in pink Minnie Mouse pajamas with pink beads in her braided hair and possibly Crocs; her parents say she is smart, talkative and friendly.
- Officials said they have not issued an Amber Alert because the case does not yet meet South Carolina’s legal criteria and that SLED will issue one if new information satisfies those requirements.
- Authorities opened a tip line at (803) 502-5200, asked residents to check small or hidden spaces on their property, requested video or photos from June 15 through June 30, and warned people not to self-deploy as untrained volunteers can hinder the search.
