Overview
- The intense monsoon pulse that produced extreme downpours from July 6 to July 8 caused flash floods, landslides and overflowing reservoirs in multiple states, with IMD issuing red, orange and yellow warnings for affected areas.
- Rescue and relief teams are working at several active sites including a tunnel landslide in Wayanad where people are dead or missing and a waste-mound collapse at Pimpri Chinchwad where about 15–16 people are feared trapped.
- Maharashtra has seen widespread disruption and deaths concentrated in Palghar and surrounding districts, with the state SDMA reporting 62 fatalities since June 1 while multi-state tallies put at least 28 dead in recent incidents.
- Key transport corridors remain impaired as landslides damaged tracks in the Bhor Ghat rail section, closed parts of the Mumbai–Pune 'Missing Link', and left Vasai–Virar and other suburban links waterlogged, slowing restoration work.
