Intel Launches Core Series 3 ‘Wildcat Lake’ for Value Laptops and Edge

Intel uses the 18A node to chase longer battery life at lower cost, trading some AI speed for narrower memory bandwidth.

Overview

  • Intel launched Core Series 3 on Thursday, April 16, with six consumer chips plus an edge-only model set to appear in more than 70 devices through 2026.
  • Built on the Intel 18A process in a two‑tile design, the chips pair up to two Cougar Cove performance cores with four Darkmont efficiency cores, an Xe3 GPU with up to two cores, and an NPU rated up to 17 TOPS.
  • All SKUs share 6MB of L3 cache and 15W/35W base and boost power targets, with platform features that include Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, up to two Thunderbolt 4 ports, and six PCIe 4.0 lanes.
  • OEMs including Acer, HP, MSI and others have initial laptops available now, with broader models from ASUS, Dell, Lenovo and Samsung coming this year and edge systems beginning in Q2 2026.
  • Intel touts up to 47% better single‑thread speed, up to 41% better multi‑thread results, and long battery life in its tests, but single‑channel memory and 17‑TOPS NPUs fall short of Microsoft’s Copilot+ NPU bar, so independent reviews and pricing will decide real‑world value.
