- GDV data, published Monday, show insurers paid about €650 million for storm, hail, lightning and flood damage to vehicles in 2025 after roughly €1.2 billion in 2024, with about 190,000 claims reported.
- Losses rose in a few states, led by North Rhine-Westphalia at €200 million and Lower Saxony at €64 million, while Bremen held near €3 million.
- Most states saw steep declines, including Baden-Württemberg down to €148 million from €530 million and Bavaria to €128 million from €281 million.
- The statistics capture only cars with comprehensive cover, which is optional in Germany, so the overall economic damage is higher than the insured sums reported.
