Overview
- A dog walker found two weighted black bin bags in the River Stour at Sudbury on August 27, 2020 and divers recovered further remains two days later.
- At an inquest held Tuesday the coroner concluded the man died from a violent assault and recorded the death as unlawful.
- Forensic pathologists reported mummified limbs with hands removed and skull fragments showing at least 14 linear cuts and multiple blows consistent with a heavy edged weapon.
- Radiocarbon dating indicated the man was likely born before the early 1950s and probably died around 2008–2012, putting his age at death in his late 60s to 70s.
- Suffolk Police say thousands of interviews and national and international DNA checks have so far failed to identify the victim and the criminal investigation remains active.
